What if your next great employee came with £3,000 towards recruitment and training costs?

What if your next great employee came with £3,000 towards recruitment and training costs?

The newly launched Youth Jobs Grant gives employers the opportunity to access motivated young talent while receiving financial support to help offset the costs of hiring and developing new staff. The scheme opened for applications on 30 June 2026 and is available to employers across Great Britain.

Why employers are getting involved

Many businesses are facing recruitment challenges, skills shortages, and rising employment costs. The Youth Jobs Grant helps you:

– Receive £3,000 for every eligible young person you recruit.

– Access pre-screened candidates through Jobcentre Plus recruitment support.

– Fill genuine vacancies with enthusiastic young people looking to build their careers.

– Strengthen your workforce while making a positive impact in your local community.Jobs Grant Employer Toolkit

Mayor of London launches £2.5m Construction Skills Pilot

Mayor of London launches £2.5m Construction Skills Pilot

The Mayor of London has launched the Construction Skills Pilot, an employer-led initiative that puts £2.5 million behind training designed and delivered in partnership with employers themselves. It supports development of existing models where employers help shape course content, provide site access, and commit to real recruitment outcomes.

The Greater London Authority (GLA) has launched the Construction Skills Pilot, a new funding opportunity committing at least £2.5 million to employer-led construction and engineering training in London.

What is it?

The Pilot funds short, targeted training courses at Levels 2 and 3 that support new entrants into the construction sector, upskill people already in work, and strengthen pathways into apprenticeships. It will test whether existing employer-led training models that have not previously received public skills funding can be scaled up or adapted to address skills gaps in London’s construction sector.

Who can apply?

Employers, federations and sector bodies, further or higher education organisations, independent training providers and other training organisations. All bidders must hold a valid UKPRN (UK Provider Reference Number) and demonstrate clear evidence of employer support – provision must be co-designed in partnership with employers.

What is on offer?

Grants of between £150,000 and £250,000 per successful bidder, for delivery from January 2027.

Key dates:

  • Applications open: 27 July 2026
  • Online Q&A session with the GLA: week of 3 August 2026
  • Deadline for clarification questions: 5pm, 23 September 2026
  • Applications close: 5pm, 30 September 2026

FIS is attending the SkillBuild National Final as the top apprentices and trainees compete for the title in their trade! Following intense Regional Qualifiers, the best of the best in UK construction will showcase their skills in a high-stakes, competitive challenge.
The Skillbuild final will take place on 20-21 November 2024 at Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes, MK1 1ST.

FIS is being supported by Locker & Riley for the ‘Have A Go’ activities. We would encourage as many members as possible to come and join us and support those competing.

What is the SkillBuild National Final?

The SkillBuild National Final 2024 is a result of the UK and devolved nations’ best apprentices and learners battling it out against each other in the SkillBuild Regional Qualifiers to become one of the top eight highest scoring competitors in their trade.

After over 1,000 registrations across 10 construction trades and 19 regional heats, the top eight are due to compete at the Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes to battle it out for a final time to be crowned the winner in their trade at the SkillBuild National Final.

The competitors will need to construct a project created by our expert panel of judges, over three days, within an 18-hour time frame. The competition project will test their knowledge, skills and abilities and will be marked by the judges at the end of the three-day competition. Competitors will also need to be able to work under pressure within strict timelines, ensure they adhere to health and safety protocols and will need to impress with their talent and finesse.
