Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)
CSCS cards provide proof that individuals working on construction sites have the appropriate training and qualifications for the job they do on site. By ensuring the workforce are appropriately qualified the card plays its part in improving standards and safety on UK construction sites.
Growing importance of the right CSCS card
The Building Safety Bill will put in place new and enhanced regulatory regimes for building safety and construction products. This will increase the requirement for employers to be able to demonstrate the competency of the labour they use.
In order to demonstrate competency, individuals will need to carry an Experienced Worker Card which relates to the activity they carry out on site. To be able to gain the correct card installers will require an NVQ2 in their chosen field.
Holding a CSCS card is not a legislative requirement. It is entirely up to the principal contractor or client whether workers are required to hold a card before they are allowed on site. However, most principal contractors and major house builders require construction workers on their sites to hold a valid card.
For information visit the CSCS website.
