Richard Bartlett

Willmott Dixon Interiors

Richard started his career in environmental remediation in Sudan, learning early the importance of stakeholder collaboration and aligning incentives for successful outcomes. He then returned to the UK, earning an MSc in Sustainable Design & Construction, and began working at Willmott Dixon in 2011. His first major project was the WWF Living Planet Centre, an exemplary project that advanced the integration of social and environmental sustainability in construction. This project was notable for its emphasis on high-quality deliverables in line with the project’s charter, a significant learning point in Richard’s career.

Richard has since focused on delivering projects in Preconstruction, primarily under a two-stage procurement process. A strong proponent of Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), he has seen both effective and ineffective implementations of this approach. He acknowledges that while true integration of ECI is still evolving, the adoption of certain rules and guidelines can greatly enhance project delivery.

Currently, Richard is the Preconstruction Director at Willmott Dixon Interiors. He is keen to explore how ECI can be effectively applied in a sector that typically relies on competitive single-stage contractor procurement.
