Twitter Piccadilly Circus, London
The Project
Architectural Wallsz were approached by IA Interior Architects to supply and install a fully glazed acoustic folding wall within the Twitter HQ, Piccadilly Circus, London. Twitter were looking for an operable partition wall in their Level 3 canteen with an integrated door leaf for individual use.
Following several initial design meetings, AWallsz provided IA with three potential options for the folding wall layout. To make the overall design concept work, the existing walls were built up with smaller static glazed partitions to create a workable distance from the existing column and develop a wide, single elevation opening for the operable wall to span.
The wall needed to be self-supporting and could not hang from the slab. As a result, the system was reinforced with a bespoke structural steel framework. This meant working closely with the structural engineers and steel fabricators to get the wall measurements correct and ensure all elements would work together, with very little tolerance.
The folding wall had an integrated doorway set within the bespoke glazed panels. Awallsz matched the moveable glazed panels to the smaller full height panels either side, resulting in a seamless glazed elevation with a central swing door when closed.
