The Edinburgh Grand, Edinburgh
The Project
The Edinburgh Grand opened in 2018 and is comprised of fifty luxury apartments, alongside various amenities from a restaurant to a champagne/cocktail bar. The art deco inspired interiors, perfectly complement this historic grade A listed building, which was constructed between 1936 and 1942.
We delivered the Drylining package on this forty nine week project, which included metal stud partitioning, shaftwall partitioning and wall linings with high acoustic/fire requirements. Our work was conducted across a variety of areas in the building, from the luxury apartments to the meeting rooms, bar, restaurant and back of house. With an extensive area to cover over ten floors, around twenty site operatives and four labourers worked tirelessly throughout the duration of our contract on the project.
In this drylining package, the partitions that we installed varied according to the technical requirements of the contract, for example:
• The apartments were separated by twin wall 50mm metal stud partitions, which were double sheeted with 15mm Knauf Soundshield Plus plasterboard to achieve 64dB.
• The rooms within each apartment were constructed using 70mm metal stud partitions, with 15mm Knauf Soundshield Plus plasterboard achieving 42dB.
• We installed 120 minute fire partitions in various locations, using 70mm metal stud with 15mm Knauf Fire Panel plasterboard. Shaftwall partitions were also constructed to service risers.
• Finally, double layer fire plasterboard ceilings were installed underneath the sixth floor penthouse. Originally, the former RBS building was constructed over five floors and so by adding this unique rooftop apartment, occupants can benefit from extraordinary views of Scotland’s capital city.
One striking aspect of the building is the feature atrium, which showcases a spiralling, bronze balustrade. On the top floor, the partitions that we installed followed the curve of this atrium and facilitated the formation of additional luxury accommodation.
