The Project

The refurbishment of the Princess Royal Theatre, Port Talbot, included the installation of a Topakustik C7 Modular Grid Ceiling System, a premium acoustic ceiling solution manufactured in Germany and widely recognised for its combination of architectural aesthetics and acoustic performance. Prior to the ceiling installation, M&P Contractors designed and installed a robust Unistrut support framework, providing a secure and accurate substructure from which the suspended ceiling system could be installed and aligned.

The ceiling specification comprised Topakustik Micro 1.8/1.8/0.5 Class A acoustic tiles, measuring 1800mm x 600mm, finished in a high-quality oak veneer with a fire-retardant finish. The micro-perforated timber panels are designed to achieve excellent sound absorption characteristics, helping to control reverberation and enhance speech clarity throughout the theatre environment. This makes the system particularly suitable for performance venues where acoustic quality is critical to both performers and audiences.

The modular grid ceiling was installed complete with proprietary hangers, fixings and accessories, suspended from the previously installed Unistrut framework. The finished installation delivers a seamless and visually striking ceiling appearance while also providing practical access for future maintenance requirements.

The Topakustik system contributes significantly to the refurbishment by combining Class A acoustic performance, fire safety compliance and a contemporary natural timber finish, helping create a high-quality theatre environment that meets both functional and architectural objectives.
