The Project

The school is being delivered on behalf of Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust (KMAT), working in partnership with Warwick District Council, by Morgan Sindall Construction. The project will see Kenilworth School and Sixth Form relocated from its two existing sites to a new facility at Southcrest Farm, Glasshouse Lane, in Kenilworth. The new three-storey campus will offer places to 2,200 students, an increase on the current number of 440, to help it cater to the growing population in Kenilworth.

This project was a real challenge for DCL for several reasons, the two most significant being the complexity of the parapets throughout the roof areas. These areas were designed to conceal the plant needed to run a school of this size while maintaining aesthetics and planning requirements. The other real challenge was VE; this project was swapped from a brick finish to fully rendered project (12,000m2) due to VE. This meant our installation needed to be installed to tighter tolerances than set out within the FIS good guidance to ensure these large elevations had no render deviations.

This project was also the catalyst to the Through-wall safety alert for flat-plate in firerated SFS Facards and played a large part in bringing the best Practice guide to fruition that was published in Oct 2022
