The Project
The City Observatory on Calton Hill in Edinburgh was designed by William Henry Playfair in 1818. The refurbishment project started in 2012, and our works were completed in September 2018. Initially our scope of works covered traditional lath and lime plaster to the ceilings and meridian slots of the observatory, and in-situ work to the cornices, whilst endeavouring to retain as much of the existing fabric as possible. Our scope was extended to include a proprietary lime based plaster on stainless steel rib lath to the walls of the City Dome
