The Project

“The Citizens Theatre represents the best of Glasgow… It makes art and drama feel, as it should, like a vital voice, culturally, socially and politically.”
Paul McNamee, UK Editor of the Big Issue and Chair of Citizens Theatre Board

Indeglas have been part of the construction supply chain that has formed an intrinsic part of the renewal of the Citizens Theatre and the transformation of one of Scotland’s most treasured cultural institutions.
The project retains the original 1878 auditorium – complete with its unique Victorian stage machinery – while introducing new foyers, studios, workshops and circulation whilst a sequence of publicly accessible rooms link front and back of house spaces, offering glimpses of the theatre’s working life.
Indeglas provided a variety of internal glazing solutions that are evident across these areas contributing to the building’s fire and acoustic strategy, as well as forming a valuable part of the architectural vision that aligns modern materials alongside the existing, iconic stone structure.
As well as providing fire rated doors and screens, and perhaps most impressively, Indeglas have designed, supplied and installed specialist glazed sliding screens to control rooms that help to achieve the Client’s exacting requirements.
Working with our manufacturing partners Fyotto, our acoustic sliders provide the durability and functionality that is required in a hardworking theatre environment and are engineered to maximise acoustic performance. This is crucial in an environment such as this and by working alongside Bennetts Associates, Kier and Struer we have achieved a solution that is built to last.
