Carrick Academy, South Ayrshire
The Project
Combining multiple educational and recreational facilities, the new Maybole Community Campus has been a stately addition to the South Ayrshire area, providing state of the art amenities and advantages for the local community. DV McColl were privileged to supply and deliver the Suspended Ceilings package for Morgan Sindall in what was a technically challenging, inventive, and aesthetically impressive project. Comprising of new build primary and secondary schools, a new nursery, community centre, sports facility and swimming pool, the Campus covering circa 18,000 sqm + displays and demonstrates how multiple Suspended Ceiling systems can be integrated to throughout a combined facility. The scope of works included plasterboard ceilings, bulkheads, rooflights, grid ceilings, black grid ceilings, acoustic rafts, woodwool ceilings, timber slatted ceilings, a concealed/bespoke non-corrosive pool area ceiling, and cavity fire barriers. The two main focal points of the project were the high level main atrium and swimming pool which very unique in terms of design and interface from a technical standpoint.
Scope of Works
Two main areas within the campus that proved to be technically challenging for different reasons were the main atrium and the swimming pool. Working at height was a major factor for both areas with the atrium works being carried out on MEWPS and the Swimming Pool from a crash deck fixed arrangement. The Swimming pool construction build-up was particularly complex and required a tremendous amount of co-ordination with the design team, site team and other trades. With many boarding applications being required, the weight of the ceiling was substantial and required support from a complex and bespoke framing arrangement at heavily intense centres using a non-corrosive C Profile System.
