Boclair Academy, Glasgow
The Project
The new Boclair Academy in Bearsden is built within the grounds of the previous school and provides state-of-the-art facilities for over 1000 pupils. The new £40m two storey building comprises a large entrance atrium, flexible teaching zones, performance spaces and dining areas. Careful consideration was given to teaching and providing an environment that encouraged collaborative opportunities between departments and pupils.
The project was procured via the SCAPE framework. The site topography was a major challenge and as such, there is a 4m level change across the footprint of the building.
Sustainability was a key driver for the project. The engineer, Curtins’, carbon calculator was used to report on the embodied carbon within the structure and to aid the planning process.
Veitchi Interiors was awarded the fit-out contract through a positive interview process. The tight programme was successfully achieved and the project was handed over early to the client.
