The Project
Guests arrive into the new Visitors Centre through the central area into a spacious atrium. Inside, the design showcases an intentionally simple and sophisticated engineering style.
The ceiling installation features a striking design with diagonal silver birch ply rafters arranged in a pattern that creates a bunting effect. The diagonal beams interlock at the peak beam while side supports for the beams are self-sustaining, eliminating the requirement for fasteners or welding. Each rafter is filled with wood fiber acoustic panelling, not only enhancing the aesthetic appeal but also serving a functional purpose by improving the room’s acoustics. The combination of the silver birch ply and the diagonal arrangement adds a unique visual texture, while the wood fiber acoustic paneling ensures a balanced sound environment. This design not only beautifies the space but also contributes to its acoustic performance.
