Avon Street, Bristol
The Project
V&D Interiors delivered the plastering works at Avon Street, Bristol, a major purpose-built student accommodation development comprising 447 bedrooms across three blocks and extending up to 12 storeys.
The package involved approximately 43,087m² of skim finishes to walls and ceilings, together with approximately 9,867 linear metres of bulkheads and columns, requiring around 5,680 bags of British Gypsum BoardFinish.
A key challenge was achieving and maintaining a consistently high-quality finish across such a substantial volume of repetitive accommodation spread across three separate blocks. Benchmark rooms were established to agree the required standard of finish, providing a quality reference that V&D maintained throughout all three blocks. This approach contributed to low levels of snagging and a consistent finished product across the development.
The scale of the works also created significant labour and logistical demands. The constrained site offered very limited storage and material-handling space, with a main road bounding the site and the River Avon to the rear.
V&D carefully coordinated labour, material movements and the plastering sequence to successfully deliver more than 43,000m² of high-quality skim finishes across three blocks, maintaining the benchmark standard despite the scale and challenging site conditions
