The Project
The main Warehouse/Mega wall area was constructed as a box-within-a-box structure to reduce any flanking sound transmission. We worked within the 2.4-metre span in between these structures, delivering Knauf drywall partitioning, Metsec steel frame and acoustic insulation. Along with the tight conditions, we worked at heights of up to 28 metres making the delivery of acoustic baffles, insulation slabs and drywalling particularly challenging.
Because the main auditorium of the building was constructed as a sphere shape, we had to think carefully about installing partitions. To accommodate this unique shape, some of the theatre walls would need to be sloped and in a curved radius. While most of the theatre partitions were constructed with Knauf systems, we tackled the sloping walls with a Metsec SFS.
Acoustic quality and soundproofing were important across the project. We applied acoustic washes/bearings to the heads and base channels to achieve the acoustic ratings required. We used Metsec steel framing with four layers of Knauf high-density acoustic boards to form acoustic enclosures around services to reduce sound levels.
Our project manager worked closely with the architect from the earliest design stages, advising on buildability and ensuring the appropriate plans were in place for each design element.
