  • How do you find out where your nearest Defib unit is?

To find a Defib unit you can use the Defib app or search Defib Finder into your browser.

  • Where can you get training on using a Defib?

St John Ambulances and the British Heart Foundation both offer a Defibrillation and resuscitation course.

  • Should we get a Defib in our office?

Although there are no specific legal requirements, employers are encouraged to have defibrillators in the workplace as proper first aid equipment. Businesses are encouraged to evaluate their on-site risks and requirements to decide whether installing a defibrillator would be beneficial.

  • If we are mobile, would it make more sense to get a DeFib in a vehicle?

Yes, as this is always traveling with employees, which means that they are prepared for any situation which may require the use of a defibrillator.

  • How do we purchase a defibrillator?

Defibrillators can be purchased from St John Ambulance, The British Heart Foundation and other online defibrillator shops. It is recommended that for a car, a light, compact and easily portable defib is chosen.

  • Registering a Defibrillator

Defibrillators can be registered through your local ambulance service and on The Circuit (The National Defibrillator Network) – https://www.thecircuit.uk/.

  • What checks should we do of our DeFib unit and when?

A defibrillator should be checked daily to ensure that everything is correct and ready for use. The defib should tell you if anything is wrong, however you should still check for damage, low battery, has it been used, that all the items are in the correct place and check the expiry date on the adhesive pads.
