FIS has been active through a number of working groups established by Government and industry to respond to the tragic events at Grenfell.  Concerns persist related to services penetration and the integrity of fire compartmentation, with problems still regularly encountered in buildings of all types and often at later stages in construction.  These issues have the potential to add cost and compromise safety.

A recent example of our work

FIS Risk Management Toolkits are built on the principles of the FIS Product Process People (PPP) Quality Management Framework and are designed to help businesses effectively indentify and manage risk.

One risk that was consistently highlighted was Fire Penetration planning.  FIS teamed up with four leading not-for-profit organisations to deliver a Best Practice Design and Installation Guide, Firestopping of Service Penetrations.  This guide will support compliance with the new Building Safety Bill (which covers all of construction, not just residential) and your internal focus on quality.  The guide introduces 9 Golden Rules and looks at design, specification and installation.  It is broken down to provide information on actions that should be carried out during Stages 1-7 of the RIBA Plan of Work.

“This document is the result of a collaboration between a number of relevant trade bodies and organisations representing the wider construction and fire safety industries, and it is an example of the collaborative working and acceptance of professional responsibility throughout the supply chain that must become a feature of the industry’s culture from now on.”
