Nick Kendall

Local Authority Building Control

Nick’s career in the construction industry started in 1990 as a civil engineer where he specialised in running a variety of piling disciplines across the UK.

In 2000 Nick switched to Public Service Building Control in Cambridgeshire. Starting as a surveyor at East Cambridgeshire District Council, he moved to South Cambridgeshire in 2003 to take a senior surveyor position and then finally in 2013 onto Cambridge City Council.

Nick advanced his career there, becoming Chair of LABC’s national Engagement working group and Chair of LABC’s East Anglia region.

During this time 3C Shared Services was formed, combining three councils including Cambridge City and his former employer South Cambridgeshire, and Nick became Commercial Manager for that service.

Nick has always been an advocate of the LABC Awards and was part of small team which together organised the East Anglia regional awards which he hosted for several years. Nick’s passion for public service building control meant that he also assisted with some LABC learning delivery whilst with 3C Shared services.

Nick then decided he wanted to invest fully in the next generation of surveyors and joined LABC as a Learning and Development Specialist in September 2021. Nick regularly writes an editorial for an architectural magazine and continues to be keen to promote building control as a rewarding career.
