Our Cultural Heart, Huddersfield
The Project
Phoenix Group (UK) Ltd was appointed by BAM Construction to deliver the Loadbearing & Infill SFS, Drylining, Suspended Ceilings & Acoustic finishes as part of the Our Cultural Heart regeneration project in Huddersfield.
The project involved the transformation of the former Queensgate Market into a new cultural destination incorporating a Food Hall and Library. Phoenix’s SFS works formed part of the building’s internal construction and envelope, providing framing systems to support the development of the new spaces.
Alongside the Metsec SFS installation, Phoenix delivered British Gypsum Drylining works, incorporating internal wall and partition systems throughout the development. These works contributed to the creation of functional and high-quality internal spaces within the refurbished building.
The project required close coordination between the SFS and Drylining teams, as well as BAM Construction and the wider project team. Working within an existing building presented challenges including restricted working areas, coordination with existing structures and careful sequencing of the works.
Phoenix’s experience in multi-package schemes, enabled the company to provide a coordinated specialist subcontract including Suspended Ceilings, Acoustic Finishes, Blockwork & Specialist Stonework, helping to support the transformation of the former market building into a modern cultural and community facility for Huddersfield and the wider Kirklees community.
