The Mayor of London has launched the Construction Skills Pilot, an employer-led initiative that puts £2.5 million behind training designed and delivered in partnership with employers themselves. It supports development of existing models where employers help shape course content, provide site access, and commit to real recruitment outcomes.

The Greater London Authority (GLA) has launched the Construction Skills Pilot, a new funding opportunity committing at least £2.5 million to employer-led construction and engineering training in London.

What is it?

The Pilot funds short, targeted training courses at Levels 2 and 3 that support new entrants into the construction sector, upskill people already in work, and strengthen pathways into apprenticeships. It will test whether existing employer-led training models that have not previously received public skills funding can be scaled up or adapted to address skills gaps in London’s construction sector.

Who can apply?

Employers, federations and sector bodies, further or higher education organisations, independent training providers and other training organisations. All bidders must hold a valid UKPRN (UK Provider Reference Number) and demonstrate clear evidence of employer support – provision must be co-designed in partnership with employers.

What is on offer?

Grants of between £150,000 and £250,000 per successful bidder, for delivery from January 2027.
