Nike Rise, Birmingham
The Project
The ceiling installation features a bespoke Unistrut design to accommodate a Hunter Douglas open cell tile system, measuring 1200mm x 1200mm. This project presented unique challenges due to the original building’s constraints, particularly the existing steelwork and substructure on the top floor.
To navigate around fire-encased beams, we employed a Gripple system instead of threaded rods, ensuring compliance with safety standards while maximising structural integrity. The Unistrut components were hand-cut into 6m lengths, necessitating precise cutting and assembly on-site to achieve the required fit.
Specific connecting plates were utilised to enhance the stability of the installation, ensuring a seamless integration of the tiles into the bespoke framework. This careful approach not only addressed the complexities of the existing architecture but also maintained the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the ceiling.
The result is a striking and efficient installation that exemplifies innovative design within the Finishes & Interiors Sector, showcasing our commitment to overcoming challenges and delivering high-quality craftsmanship.
This project presented unique challenges due to the original building’s constraints and its location in an extremely busy city center.
The full scope included metal furring ceilings, lay-in grid ceilings, and a comprehensive drylining system installation, complemented by tape and joint techniques for a smooth finish. Acoustic rafts and baffles were incorporated to enhance sound control. Additionally, we installed polycarbonate partitions and integrated stainless steel columns and bulkheads, contributing to the modern aesthetic and functionality.
Working around existing steelwork and substructures on the top floor was complex, requiring the use of a Gripple system instead of threaded rods to navigate fire-encased beams safely. The Unistrut components were hand-cut into 6m lengths, demanding precise on-site assembly and specific connecting plates for stability.
Given the busy city environment and tight deadlines, the project required out-of-hours work and night shifts. Our incredibly dedicated team of site operatives worked diligently to ensure timely progress while minimising disruption. The result is a striking and efficient installation that exemplifies innovative design within the Finishes & Interiors Sector, showcasing our commitment to overcoming challenges and delivering high-quality craftsmanship.
