About the Health, Safety and Welfare Forum

This forum was formed in 2014 to meet with and open a two-way dialogue with the HSE as many of their initiatives were, are, and continue to be focused on the activities of the fit-out sector. As representatives of the sector, we considered that FIS and HSE should work together to increase the safety, health and wellbeing of workers engaged in finishes and fit-out work and look for practical and realistic solutions to achieve this. The forum provides an opportunity for both organisations to come together and exchange views on subjects such as; fee for intervention (FFI), health and welfare, CDM regulations and up-and-coming HSE activities.

The Forum is chaired by FIS chief executive David Frise.

Note: Generally, forum meetings are held as and when issues or matters arise that require the input, guidance and adherence of FIS members.

Our main objectives are:

  • Maintain a dialogue with HSE on behalf of the finishes and interiors sector
  • Obtain details of HSE initiatives and their timescales to advise members
  • Investigate alternative ways to improve the health and safety of operatives on site
  • Monitor and contribute ideas to make the CDM regulations more effective
  • Understand the parameters and fees for intervention (FFI) and update our members
  • Work towards a fully CSCS carded workforce
