Finishes and Interiors Sector (FIS) is recruiting a Technical Projects Manager to support our ongoing transformation from a vital knowledge hub to a modern information provider and dynamic technical authority. This is an exciting new role and opportunity to make a difference in a growing organisation that will support transformation in the £10 billion finishes and interiors sector.
Outline of the Role
Key to the role is working with the FIS Team, Members and relevant stakeholders and specifiers to develop relevant guidance and associated training to support compliance and ongoing business improvement. The role will be pivotal to supporting the delivery of the FIS Product Process People Quality Framework and ensuring that the members have accessible quality information effectively targeted.
The individual will also provide support to the FIS Team in supporting the FIS Working Groups and projects that are identified through these groups to ensure that the FIS is delivering value and supporting change within the sector.
The role requires close working with members and site visits in order to conduct vetting.
The Candidate
The candidate will require technical knowledge of construction and particularly key packages within the fit-out process. Key is a demonstrable ability to break complex problems/information down and communicate simply to all parts of the supply chain. The individual will be expected to have direct experience working in or closely with contracting businesses operating in the finishes and interiors sector.
The focus of this role is to work within one of construction’s leading and most dynamic trade bodies to ensure FIS Members and those specifying products and packages in the sector know what good is and how to deliver it effectively.
Main Purpose of Role:
The role is to support the FIS Technical Team in managing technical projects, working with the FIS Team, members and wider stakeholders to help evolve the technical resources that support our community. This will include supporting the various working groups in delivering projects and developing/updating technical guidance and training. Where necessary, the individual will support the vetting of members and responding to relevant technical enquiries as they come in.
Key Duties:
- Support the delivery of FIS Technical Projects, including the repurposing of existing information into e-Learning courses.
- Take an active role in FIS Working Groups helping to identify and research and scope technical projects.
- Engage with members and key stakeholders to ensure any information is developed through effective consultation and appropriate challenge.
- Work closely with FIS Training Team to ensure that key areas of improvement are identified and embraced within the qualification and training landscape in the sector.
- Work with the wider FIS team to ensure outcomes from projects are effectively targeted at an communicated to the right audience
- Where necessary respond to technical enquiries as they come in.
- Help develop and update Tools, Template Resources, Checklists, Toolbox Talks and Training materials to support a process of continuing improvement in the sector.
- Conduct member vetting across the UK.
Essential Requirements:
- Direct experience working in a technical capacity in the finishes and interiors sector eg Drywall, Partitioning, Ceiling Fixing, Joinery or supporting the delivery of Interior fit-out projects
- Knowledge of the challenges and issues that confront contractors and suppliers in the Finishes and Interiors Sector
- Knowledge of the regulations and standards as they impact our community
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including report writing and presenting to small and medium sized groups
- Ability to interpret, summarise and relay information in a concise and effective way
- Able to manage collaborative groups and build professional relationships
- Ability to manage competing priorities
Desirable Skills:
- Experience developing short duration training
- Capability to conduct audits or inspections of installations
