Carillion, the UK’s second largest construction firm, went into compulsory liquidation on Monday 15 January with £1.5bn of debt, including a £587m pension shortfall.

The government has said it will provide funding to ensure Carillion’s 450 public services contracts continue but this will not apply to private contracts. FIS has actively supported the Ten Minute Rule Bill which seeks to amend the 1996 Construction Act and ensure that retentions within construction are held in a third party trust scheme. The Bill will receive a second reading on 27 April. Evidence of retentions abuse will add support to this Bill, so please email davidfrise@thefis.org if you have anything, all evidence will remain confidential.

If your business will be impacted by Carillion’s collapse, please let us know as we can direct you to the free legal advice provided by Womble Bond Dickinson. Contact the FIS office on 0121 707 0077 or email info@thefis.org
