The Augar review of post-18 education and funding was published this week. It identifies a gap in the tertiary education system, for the 50% of 18-30 year olds who do not go to university. The review sets out 53 recommendations for Government, including a dedicated capital investment of £1 billion for FE colleges and capping student fees at £7,500 per year. Other construction skills related recommendations focus on skills, further education and apprenticeships. The Government will now consider the panel’s proposals, and engage further with stakeholders and students, before finalising its approach at the Spending Review.
